SMTP is a protocol required for sending as well as for receiving emails. More precisely, It is an application layer based protocol that facilitates in transmission and distribution of email over the Internet. You can send emails with all web servers as most of them have SMTP facility, but they have some limitations like 100 emails per hour or 500 email per day. They never support bulk emailing from their server, that will make lots of problems for them like IP black listing, hosting account suspension, high bandwidth usage etc… as they are using the same server for lots of other applications(like hosting company websites, running corporate emails etc…) that will be big issue in future.
